Astonishing villa design inspired by Japanese architecture: Engawa House

The Engawa House sits on a lakefront site in Seattle, Washington. Designed by Sullivan Conard Architects, the expressive villa resembles a contemporary mansion and evokes the luxurious lifestyle of the inhabitants. The timber industry encouraged the architects to construct an astonishing residence, featuring large horizontal banks of windows and wooden lattice screens. Glass and wood combine to shape an outstanding home, inspired by Japanese architecture. The engawa – a south-facing veranda edge between the interior living spaces and the outdoor garden – gave the name of the house and breaks the monotony of the landscape.

Light is invited inside by the multitude of windows and spread throughout the house by transparent glass screens and semi-transparent lattice screens. Exquisite craftsmanship and architecture allows the house to display an interesting architecture and use of materials, without compromising the modern feel. Enjoy the photos!
