Plush Purples and Radiant Violets

Purples were big in 2013 and they are all set to take over the color world in 2014 in an even more emphatic fashion. Two of the biggest names that determine color trends in the fashion and interior design world have already put this majestic shade at the forefront. While Pantone Color Institute predicts ‘Radiant Orchid’ to top the color palette come spring 2014, Sherwin-Williams has gone for a hue dubbed ‘Exclusive Plum’. While the former is a pinky purple that looks bright and bubbly, the latter is a dusky violet that looks sophisticated and posh.

Color choices depend on the way we perceive the world around us. Purple has been a color of wealth, royalty and prosperity for a long while, and with the world starting to firmly move past the global economic strife, many believe that this rich color is set to make its way into more households to signify a symbolic renaissance of sorts. Since purple comes in a multitude of shades, picking one that suits the theme of your home is not that hard either!

Elegant and Understated Grey

Seems like 50 Shades of Grey has left a lasting legacy that extends way beyond the bestseller list of The New York Times! grey is quickly becoming the new white, both in the fashion industry and the interior design industry. Home owners are happy to replace the traditional white and cream walls with cool grey that ushers in a classy, refined ambiance. The Paint Quality Institute says that the shade ‘connotes intellect’ and is bound to become the most-used neutral shade in the years to come. Grey also allows you to decorate with any color of your choice and works seamlessly with several different contemporary themes.

Cheerful Mustard Yellow

Nothing brings an interior filled with gentle colors to life like a bit of refreshing yellow. Mustard Yellow is another vivacious shade that is set to make big waves in the year ahead. Yellow signifies prosperity, style and energizing warmth and tends to look simply outstanding when you are opting for a sun-kissed interior style. Even the fashion world seems to be warming up to this vivid shade, and once the summer of 2014 is here, expect mustard yellow to pop up pretty much everywhere you look. A perfect way to revitalize your home in a fun fashion…

Breathtaking Blues

Call it a classic or a perennial favorite, the good old blue never seems to fade out of fashion. A staple for the guys and an interior paint color that forms the basis of many popular themes, you simply cannot go wrong with blue. Whether it is that placid blue inspired by the clear summer sky or that dazzling, brilliant blue that is borrowed from warm, tropical ocean waters, blue eases your mind, fills the space with positive energy and uplifts your mood. Combining relaxation with rejuvenation, dip into the vast blue reservoir as you get ready to welcome the New Year!

Stylish Silver and Golden Glitz

When Apple brings out its marquee phone in a certain new hue and it quickly becomes the trendiest mobile, beating the classic black and the stylish white models, you better start paying attention! Gold adds warmth to a setting in an affluent way. Gold is definitely one of the happening colors of the season, and it seems to be a trend that will well continue into the next Holiday season!  Yet, unlike the mustard yellow featured above, it does not look too bold and exudes opulence without going over the top. Glittering brass finishes also look stunning as accent additions in a contemporary setting dominated by calm, neutral colors.

Gold trims coupled with silver also look fabulous, and much like gold, silver is also a great choice for those looking to replace the grey and white shades with something a bit more exciting and exclusive. Both shades obviously look perfect when used modestly and with care. So make sure you do not go overboard with these colors and finishes.

But it is important to remember that color trends not only showcase the direction that you could take while going in for a renovation or repainting your walls. They also allow you to make smarter and trendier choices while shopping for new furnishings. But this should not overwhelm your personal taste and the colors that you are comfortable with around you. Ultimately, your home is all about showcasing who you are what you love the most! So, which of these colors would you gleefully invite home come 2014?
